Tips on Covid and Autoimmune.

Updated: Sep 22, 2020

So Hello all my Lovelies!

Being a person that has multiple Autoimmune diseases (aka little body demons taking over your insides and then your life.)

I wanted to share a few things you could do to cope while quarantined. I mean it may sound like basic knowledge but many may still need to hear it, and things of this nature.

For a lot of us that have Autoimmune disorders self quarantining isn't anything new, we are often forced to socially distance or separate ourselves for our own safety.

But with the Covid 19, Corona virus also known as SARS-CoV-2 virus looming over our heads we have to take extra precautions. We are in the category of *High risk* individuals since we have preexisting conditions, along with babies and the elderly whose immune system may not be strong enough to combat the virus's attack on our bodies. So when dealing with the higher risk, knowing when to get help if coming in contact with the virus, knowing if we will be able to get treatment, or making contact with people who don't believe in caution and prevention or looking out for others, this can come with a mixed bag of emotional juju.

So what are some things we can do while dealing with Covid when chronically ill?

Well..

SANITIZE!

Sanitize everything! When out and about and touching things, make sure to clean or wash your hands before touching other parts of your body, especially your face!

When coming back home take off shoes before coming inside, shower, wash and change clothes if possible.

Keep home surfaces clean and disinfected to minimize germ within the home.

KEEP IN TOUCH WITH YOUR MEDICAL TEAM!

Make sure your Medical Team is a phone call away.

Being able to stay in touch with Your Own doctors will help keep stress down and help make critical decisions and save valuable time. They will be able to answer the pressing questions on your conditions and what to do and when to go the hospital if needed. Make sure to keep taking your vitamins, supplements and medications as directed by your medical team.

MENTAL HEALTH..

Another thing to be sure of is doing things for your Mental Health.

Mental Health is a very important, yet taboo subject most of the time.

People often don't like to address mental health and mental health goes hand in hand with physical health and well being. For people with chronic illness, our mental health usually takes a hit dealing with so many changes to our lives as we learn how to live with our new bodily situations and everything that comes along with that, and oh yea can't forget from all the isolation!

So while being quarantined make sure to reach out to others while social distancing!

Don't shy away from utilizing social media, and video calling apps like face time.

Reach out to the Disabled and Chronically ill communities, join groups on social platforms like Facebook.

There are many ways to stay connected without meeting up in person.

Although maintaining relationships are important in these trying, uncertain times, they will have to be maintained virtually for a while.

STAY EDUCATED..

Staying educated is very important for mental health and well being.

Learning what you can about the virus, can keep you ahead of the virus.

Not panicking, keeping calm and NOT believing all the hype is Very important.

Knowing what you are dealing with( to some degree) can help reduce stress and anxiety, which can help keep flare ups of your illnesses down. Also educating your friends and family can help stop panic bulk buying which is really hurting the Disabled *High risk* communities as Meds, toiletries, and certain dietary needs are in short or non existent supply now!

There are many things you can do as precautionary measures but also things to pass the time.

Maybe I will write about some more things you can do while in quarantine in another post!?

-Stay Lovely
